Intestate means that you have not created a will for yourself. Every state has statutes that define the beneficiaries of a person's estate if they've not designated those beneficiaries in a will. The intestate statutes also will decide who represents you, the executor or personal representative before the court and even who may make the decision for the guardians of your minor children. It is very important that every person have a will to avoid the intestate statutes.
