Trusts are legal vehicles. A revocable living trust is a trust that a person would create for the purpose of avoiding probate. Another reason why a client may choose to have a revocable living trust is to have greater creativity in their beneficiary designations beyond an outright distribution. So a client who would like to structure distributions over certain ages for children, or at specific ages even for adult beneficiaries, or to include special needs trust provisions. That's where a revocable living trust would be most beneficial in an estate plan.
